Popular Actress, Ruth Musa Oyenekan has revealed that despite all her notable achievements in acting, she wept on the day a major movie producer rejected her videos.
The popular actress while speaking in an exclusive interview with Friday Extravaganza disclosed that her passion for acting, perseverance and courage have remained the sources of her inspiration and exploits.
Oyenekan stated that her love for acting started way back in her childhood, though her parents later influenced the course she studied in school.
She explained that she was influenced by her father to study Law at the Edo State University, now Ambrose Alli University.
In her words, “Left for me, I would have preferred to study Theatre Arts. In 1994, I featured in my first movie titled SHATTERED DREAMS.” The movie was produced and directed by Mr. Chris Ebutse.
“During my undergraduate days, I was a member of a six-man drama group and also headed the drama unit of my fellowship. The group performed stage plays at various outings, especially during the SUG weeks. I derive great joy and satisfaction from acting.”
She said that she officially started acting in 2016, when she registered her company and was introduced to a major movie producer in Asaba, Delta state, Uche Nancy.
“She encouraged me to produce short movies and promised to upload them on her channel for a certain percentage. She later rejected the videos for been ‘too short’ to have on her channel. This unexpected development practically made me cry. I was frustrated because I had put in my best (time, money and material resources).
“My husband, who has always encouraged me to follow my passion, gave me the push to create my own channel and upload the videos. My first set of videos were ,’Aboki’, ‘Funny side of Recession’ and ‘Survival of the wise’ all produced & directed by Kayode Falade. Now I have to my credit 10 skits, ” she claimed.
In November, she was on set to shoot her first full movie, titled IMENFIA (SURVIVOR).
She stated that the beginning of every journey always have its challenges and that hers was finance. She appreciated her husband, Rotimi Oyenekan, family and friends that believed in her passion.
She boasted that she does not see any role too challenging to take up and can interpret script seamlessly.
When asked about her role model, she singled out Gloria Anozie Young as someone she looks up to. The qualities she admires in her are the way she interprets her roles and oratory prowess.
In the next 5years, she hoped to see herself as a successful producer in the industry, who will be able to touch lives and create a platform for upcoming actors.
