I wept when my films were rejected -Ruth Oyenekan

An Akure-based actress, Mrs Ruth Oyenekan, said that her passion for acting made way for her in the film industry.

The CEO of Musa Oyenekan production said she has been acting  since she was  very young  that whenever she does anything, people would begin to laugh, even as she grew up she kept doing what she like because acting runs in her vein.

The actress who hails from Ihievbe, Owan East local government area of Edo State, told the Friday Extravaganza that she was acting in  her church  when she was young where she developed more interest in acting.

The Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in graduate noted that during her days in the university, being a Law student,  five of them formed a theatre group  while  two ladies in the group always featured during the student union government (SUG) week in the school.

According to her, her father used to call her actress because of what he saw in her, but he wanted her to study Law.

“My father felt I could  advocate for people. Even at home he might be flogging someone else and I would  say “no” and my mother would say “lawyer”. So my father felt I could be a good lawyer.

“After the death of my father about three years ago, I felt  I should follow my passion and I spoke to Uchemaze.  She is  a big producer in the East.  I told her that I worked that acting is just a passion and I  want to act.  But she told me that it would be too much for me going for audition.

“The woman told me to produce some skits that she would help me to put it on her channel, and we agreed on 30/70 percentage, she would take 30% and I would take 70%,  but when I produced my first skit titled ‘Aboki, funny side of recession’, I was excited to inform her but she told me that it was too short for her to put on her channel.

“When I heard, I cried because I  had spent money and my ability on those skits.  Later, I opened my  own site, Musa Oyenekan production.

Barrister Oyenekan noted that she enjoys acting and she is really happy whenever she is on set, that while she  produced 10 skits within three years.

According her, she decided to produced a full movie that would be coming out soon and the title of the movie is Imenfia (survivor).

She said  she had  spent over N2 million naira  on the project with the help of those people that God touched their lives to assist  her, when they saw her ability in the skits she had produced.

Oyenekan, also narrowed in on the many challenges she encountered while trying to build her career. One of the major problems she had was that finance.

According to her, “I don’t see any role that is challenging to me, I can interpret any script. If acting is your passion, no role would be a challenging to you. As a movie producer you can control some things not just act,”  she explained

She noted that she did not go for audition, she went straight to producing her own movie, saying God has been her helper since she started.

Oyenekan said that her  aim is to educate, entertain, enlighten and make people  laugh, because there is so many types of stress people are going through  such as marital, social, and political. She said  that when people watch  her  film  which has a bit of humour, they would be entertained and smile and their stress level  would come down.

The actress said that her husband  has given her total support , because he recognize the passion in her.

She mentioned one of her role model, Glory Anozie, saying  that she likes the way she interprets her script and the way she speaks English.

The actress said in the next five to ten years to come, she sees herself as a very big time producer that would be able to employ many people, and would be able to encourage upcoming actors and actresses.

“I see myself going far, because by God’s grace, I am laying a good foundation”,  she submitted

She stressed that her major aim is to touch lives, and to be a blessing to her generation.

“I’m planing to raise lots of up-and-coming actors and actresses.

According to her she  would be  putting up about three new skits on her YouTube channel during this festive period,  titled: house helps, visitors form, and recharge card.

She noted that the movies are interesting, saying people would  laugh but they must get a message from all her skits.

The actress said that she shoots most of her skit in Akure the State capital in order to promote where she is living, saying she  is proud of Akure.
