Nigerian singer Spyro has declared that he will not consider marriage until he has at least N500m in his bank account.

In a post shared on Instagram, Spyro reflected on his difficult childhood and his determination to build a stable financial future for himself and his family. He underscored the importance of financial security, stressing that young people should prioritise breaking the cycle of poverty.

The singer also highlighted the role of proper guidance in shaping a brighter future for the next generation. He expressed concern that many in his generation appear more focused on superficial pursuits rather than meaningful personal growth, which he described as “gallivanting and indulging in frivolities.”

Recounting his childhood struggles, Spyro revealed that he did not have the privilege of owning toys and had to overcome numerous challenges.

He further emphasised that financial success alone is not sufficient, urging parents to instill strong moral values and a sense of responsibility in their children.

He wrote: “I blame all these on bad parenting… Train up a child (male/female) the way he should go and when he grows, he will not depart from it. A lot of us should be focused on ending the circle of poverty so that our children won’t be victims too but unfortunately, my generation just dey gallivant about, indulging in frivolities..hmm

“I was talking to someone earlier today about how I was never opportune to have toys as a kid; my childhood wasn’t the easiest, but one thing I told myself from a very tender age. My kids will never have to go through what I did and so I put myself to rigorous work. In fact, I will never marry without having N500m in my account. I fought, cried, and prayed, and today, I can afford to give my kids the life they want so they don’t become prey as I almost became one.

“This should be what we should focus on, not criticising.

“Nevertheless, it’s not enough to provide, it is very Germane to also train them with the fear of God as that’s what separates a man from beast tendencies. The spirit of God in man is what regulates him and keeps him level-headed. Didn’t the Bible make reference to the heart of man? Desperately wicked who can know it? God over man is what keeps him sane.”
