Residents of Idanre in Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State have showered encomiums on the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the ongoing construction work on the town’s road linking Akure through Ijoka axis.
Sighting the Governor’s entourage, the residents who could not hide their joy over the 16 km road project which already had some portions of it asphalted, filed out in their large numbers, singing various songs in appreciation of Akeredolu’s gesture.
The elated residents, especially those residing along the new road project, applauded the Governor for his noble gesture saying they never believed it would become a reality.
In separate interviews, some residents who spoke with The Hope; Victor Akinlaye and Lola Olomisawe commended Governor Akeredolu for deeming it fit to construct the road.
“Before now, this road was in a very bad shape and we never believed it could be done until Akeredolu came like a God-sent, he did not only promise, but he is already working on it even when we were filled with doubt.
Also applauding the Governor’s giant stride were Ojo Obataye and Joseph Ogbanje a commercial motorcyclist who has been plying the road for years.
They described the Governor’s intervention as that which has brought succour to residents of the area, saying they will forever remain thankful to him for doing the unexpected for the people.
Speaking on the project, Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr Raimi Aminu said the road was part of those flagged-off as part of the Governor’s one year in office celebration.
“The road is about 16Km length and was meant to serve as an alternative route for anyone moving from Idanre to Akure.
“Before now, Idanre has only one road that enters into the town, but we thank God today, that we can transverse from here straight to Ijoka in Akure.
According to him, about three days ago, the asphalt overlay commenced, but before then, the stone base had been laid which would enable the road stand the test of time because we considered the heavy vehicles that would be plying the road”, he said.
Aminu assured the community that the project will last the entire design period which is about the minimum of 20-25 years before a single pothole can be seen on it.
Commenting on the project, Governor Akeredolu expressed happiness that the people are appreciative of government’s efforts which was evident through the manner by which they trooped out, dancing and singing.
“For me, it has always been my wish to transverse this road back to Akure and through this, we are opening a new life for Idanre people.
“This route will among other benefits, open this city for tourist attractions so that everybody could come here and have beautiful moments while visiting our tourist centres”, he said.
