The second batch of incubatees of the International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD) LIFE ND in Ondo state have been urged to take agriculture as a business which could give them profit and make them self-reliant.
A senior lecturer from the Federal College of Agriculture (FCA), Dr. Emmanuel MoyinJesu gave this advice during a field trip exercise organised for the trainees at the end of their training in Akure.
Dr. MoyinJesu said the trip was to expose them to practical aspect of what they have been taught and to know which area of agriculture to go into.
” This ecology is different from the classroom and it would be profitable to tap from knowledge of other people and exchange visit and to see what and what can be done,” he explained.
MoyinJesu said they could always come for better clarification should they fall into any challenge in their various farms.
While noting that the trainees have toured the cassava value chain centre, poultry, cocoa and fish farms, noted that they were made to see different operations at the different centers.
” Incubatees will see different species of cassava that can be grown quickly and give good yield for processing under hygienic situation and good packaging”.
He applauded IFAD and the Federal government for sponsoring the training exercise which he observed was a very good one, saying the country needs younger ones to go into agriculture as the population increases.
“Embracing agriculture changes their own perception that agric is dirty and for the old and poor people, but that agriculture is a business which can give money and can make one become a millionaire through it,” he said.
An Incubatee, Miss Oluwatoyin Adeniyi who spoke with The hope expressed her satisfaction for the training and applauded the government and IFAD for the LIFE ND programme which has opened various agricultural opportunities for them.
Adeniyi called on youths to develop passion for agriculture and to make advantage use of the opportunity avail to them to succeed.
