Hope is now renewed over the Ipele-Idoani, Isua Akoko and Elegbeka-Ifon deplorable road in Ondo State as the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has promised to rehabilitate them.
This was sequel to a letter written to FERMA by the State House on the urgent need to attend to the deplorable roads.
According to a letter which was signed by FERMA Engineer, Olubunmi Adeyemi, the Agency sympathized with motorists plying the roads, saying that palliative repairs were recently carried out by them on some critical points between Molege- Elegbeka-Ifon roads.
While describing the poor condition of the road as a serious threat to lives, he pleaded with people in the areas to exercise patience as something urgent would be done soon.
“We really sympathize with the roads’ users with the deplorable condition of these roads. These threats were caused primarily due to the absence of proper drainage system at the locations and the heavy downpour in recent times led to the quick deterioration of the submerged sections of these roads”,he said.
Adeyemi further explained that the Agency was awaiting approval and release of funds from the Federal Government as this would give permanent repairs to the ‘blackspots’.
Commenting on the letter, the Speaker, House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji expressed displeasure over the terrible condition of the roads, saying that the House decided to write FERMA on the need to carry out their primary duties of maintaining Federal Roads across the country.
Speaking on behalf of other lawmakers, Oladiji expressed concern that the roads had been abandoned and seemed to be totally out of control.
While calling on FERMA to quickly intervene in the fixing of the roads as soon as possible, the Speaker lamented that numerous incidents of kidnapping take place daily on the road.
