IGP deploys more tactical squads to quell Osun political crisis

warns political actors

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State amid escalating political violence.

This reinforcement aims to restore peace after recent violent clashes resulted in four deaths, including that of a reinstated local government chairman, across various council secretariats.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP condemned the violence, calling it a “disruption of peace and safety.” He vowed to prosecute the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“The police are committed to identifying those behind these criminal acts and ensuring they face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.

The IGP warned political actors and agitators against inciting unrest, stating that lawlessness and anarchy will not be tolerated in the state. He urged all citizens to remain calm as security agencies work to restore normalcy.

Egbetokun also emphasised that electoral disputes must be resolved through the judiciary, which remains the final arbiter.

“The Force will clamp down on any attempts to disrupt law and order in any part of the country. Osun’s situation is under close watch to ensure safety for all residents,” he affirmed.
