The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Wednesday, withdrew the defamation case filed against human rights activist, Mr. Dele Farotimi.
The case, instituted at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, was part of a broader defamation suit involving elder statesman and legal luminary, Are Afe Babalola.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Samson Osubu, informed the court that he had filed a notice of discontinuance and withdrawal, citing Section 108(1)(2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Osubu explained that the nominal complainant had expressed a desire to discontinue the case and, therefore, requested that the charges be struck out.
In response, the defense counsel, Mr. A. Olumide Fusika, SAN, stated that they accepted the withdrawal and had no objections to the case being discontinued.
Hon. Justice Babs Kuewumi subsequently ruled to strike out the suit.
