Ijapo Ages Stars win 2nd Adu Unity Cup for Aiyedatiwa
Ijapo Ages Stars Football Club have defeated Young Kings 4-3 in a penalty shootout to emerge champions of the second Adu Unity Football Cup for Aiyedatiwa.
The final match, played at the Ijapo Housing Field, ended in a goalless draw as both sides failed to find the back of the net during regulation time.
Both teams rued several missed goal-scoring opportunities in both halves of the entertaining encounter.
Ijapo Ages Stars FC, who won the maiden edition of the competition in 2023, repeated the feat this year.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, AbduRahaman Abdulsalam, in a chat with Sporting Hope, congratulated Ijapo Ages Stars FC for winning the competition twice in a row.
Abdulsalam also commended the runners-up for their sportsmanship and maturity throughout the competition.
He urged other teams to return to the drawing board, re-strategise, and come back stronger for the next edition.
According to him, “The sponsor, Dr Olumuyiwa Adu, would have been here in person, but he couldn’t make it due to an official assignment outside the state.
“Dr Adu sends his warm greetings to all the participating teams and congratulates the winners on their achievement.”
The coach of Ijapo Ages Stars, Adetomiwa Adeola, praised his players for the victory, noting that more work is needed to make the team even more formidable.
“We thank God for the success we have achieved so far.
” It was a collective effort by the coaching crew and the management,” he said.
