Residents of Ilemo Street, Ijapo Estate in Akure metropolis, have been plunged into total blackout, following the vandalisation of their transformer by some yet to be identified persons.
Speaking with The Hope Metro, a resident of the area who craved anonymity, said that the incident happened about three days ago.
She said, “In the night, I heard a very loud noise. That must have been when the transformer was vandalised. Since then, electricity supply has been epileptic here.”
A trader in the neighbourhood, who simply gave her name as Bisi, confirmed that some unidentified persons stole some cables from their transformer, adding that since then, there had been power outage in the area.
Another business woman in the area, Mama Ada said that the way the act was committed showed expertise on the part of the culprits.
She complained that though electricity officials came to assess the situation, the problem was yet to be resolved.
A resident of the area who gave his name as Blessing ThankGod, said because of solar powered panel which is available in his house, he was not conversant with the situation of electricity in the neighbourhood.
He said, “Because of solar energy which is available in my house, I am not always aware whenever electricity is restored, except I want to iron clothes. I iron clothes only once in a while.”
Further investigation conducted by The Hope Metro revealed that the total blackout as affected not only residents of the area, but also some companies around Ijapo Estate.
