I’ll put Afrobeats on global map – Y Sparko

For fast-rising Afrobeats artiste, Peter, Ayodamola Owoeye, popularly known as Y Sparko, the journey to musical stardom is not without its hurdles. Yet, the Ibadan-born singer remains undeterred, pushing relentlessly to carve a name for himself on the global stage.
Y Sparko who hails from Ekiti State but raised in Oyo’s capital, his love for music was nurtured in the choir of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Odo-Ona, Ibadan.
He recalls how his passion for music blossomed from childhood, inspired by the artistry of Nigerian superstar Wizkid.
In an interview with Weekend Extravaganza, the budding artiste spoke on the realities of breaking into the mainstream.
“It’s not easy building a fanbase, especially with how competitive the industry is today. You have to stay consistent and push hard to get noticed,” he shared.
Blending English and Yoruba influences, Y Sparko’s music revolves around themes of love and spirituality. However, he is not just content with local recognition, he has his eyes set on the global scene.
“My dream is to take my sound beyond Africa. An international record deal will help push my music to a wider audience,” he revealed.
