Five men of Hausa extraction, Gambo Ibrahim, Abubakar Musa, Dantani Bawa, Ishaya Gwabo and DanIadi Kamba are currently facing trial before an Akure High Court for being in possession of firearms illegally.

They  were arraigned on a two-count charge which they pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecution led by one O.F Olatunji, on the January 9, 2019, the men were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition along Owo/lkare road , Owo.

The 5th defendant, Danladi Kamba was charged with hunting buffalo in Ondo State Government reserve without license. They all claimed to have moved down to these parts with the intention of hunting buffalo.

The prosecution first witness, Vincent Garba of the Department of State Services  testified that he knew the defendant as he was part of the team that arrested  him.

He explained that due to the incessant kidnappings, and armed robbery attacks along Akure/Owo and lkare Expressway, Ondo State Government in collaboration with Heads of Security Agencies, set up a Joint Security Task Force (JTF), to curb the menace in the area.

“On January 9, 2019, during one of the stop and search operations by the JTF, the defendants Ibralum  Musa, Dantani Bawa, Gwabo, and Kamba,) were arrested at Owo/Ikare junction while in possession of about five guns without licences.

“They were also alleged to have other incriminating items, such as gunpowder, charms, and knives in their possession. The defendants were later brought to our command for interrogation,” he stated.
