The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Geoffrey Oboabona has disclosed that his coming back to Sunshine Stars is to add value to the team in terms of experience and motivation.
He added that the reason he came back into the team was to stabilise the team by bringing all the players together on same page to ensure that the team are back into winning ways.
Oboabona started his professional career with Sunshine Stars in 2010 to 2013 before joining Caykur Rizespor in Turkey and later played for Al- Ahly between 2017 and 2018.
He also spent a year with Gorica in 2019 and had a little stint with FC Dinamo Batumi in 2020, before rejoining the team in the second stanza of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He commended fans and all the supporters for their solidarity, saying he was impressed with their standing ovation when he was introduced into the game.
Oboabona stated this after his debut in Sunshine Stars’ 3-1 victory against Plateau United on his return at Ondo State Sports complex, Akure.
According to him, ‘this is what we have been working for day and night, we worked for positive results and thank God the results are coming, all we need to do is to sustain it.”
He said: “With the help of God, the coaches and togetherness of the players we can achieve a lot together.”
The former Caykur Rizespor of Turkey player averred that there are lots of good players in the Nigeria Premier Football League who have quality to play for the Super Eagles, saying it depends on the handlers of the national team.
“If the coaches invite the home based players with the right encouragement and motivation, they will play well, last nations Cup we have only one league player in the squad.”
