Imade lifts Olowo’s Cup

The maiden edition of the Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye Football Competition, tagged Olowo’s Cup 2021 came to an end on Tuesday as Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his deputy, Mr. Lucky Ayedatiwa, political appointees in the Akeredolu led administration, royal fathers, dignitaries and football lovers from within and around Owo thronged the Owo Community Stadium, Okeogun, Owo to watch the final match of the competition.
The competition which started in April had 20 secondary schools from Owo Local Government taking part.
In the final match Imade College, Owo defeated Uso Grammar School by a lone goal which was scored in about two minutes to the end of the first half.
The rain soaked match resumed st the second half with both teams trying to find the net of each other.
The match which saw some brilliant moves from both sides was action packed as the two teams shown some good football tactics.
Earlier in the second place match, Owo High School, Owo beat Adeyeri Grammar School, Owo by two goals to remain the runner up.
At the end of the match, Mrs Oshoro Usiholo emerged as the best behaved coach, Dokita Samuel of Imade College as the Most Valuable Player, Odoh Johnson of Uso Grammar School crowned the best goalkeeper and Adebiyi Lekan of Owo High School emerged the highest goal scorer.
Speaking at the occasion, Oba Ogunoye who took the kick off of the final match said his aim of organising the compete is to take the youths off the streets.
The Olowo who expressed his joy at the multitude who thronged the stadium to watch the match despite the rain said the final match is in fulfillment of his desire to see the rebirth of the Olowo’s cup.
Oba Ogunoye who was highly elated about the success of the competition said he has seen great soccer artistery from the young boys and hopeful that great soccer stars who will do the country proud will emerge from those discovered st the tournament.
The monarch however restated his charge to youths to shun cultism and embrace sports for self and economic development.
