Imam urges govt to subsidize rams for Sallah celebration

The Chief Imam of Illah Allah Central Mosque, Agbo Okela in Ikare Akoko, Sheikh Abdul Atareaku, has appealed to government to find ways to enable Muslim faithful to purchase subsidized rams for the upcoming Sallah celebration.

In his sermon titled “The Importance of the 10 Days of the Month of Dhu al-Hijjah and the Fear of Allah in Celebrating Sallah,” Sheikh Atareaku noted the significance of the sacred period and urged Muslims to observe the festival with piety and moderation.

He said, The ban on public domestication of animals has caused the price of rams to rise astronomically, making it difficult for many to participate in the Sallah sacrifice.

“We call on the government to consider subsidizing rams to ease this burden on the faithful.”

The Imam also urged Muslims to fear Allah and celebrate within their means, reminding the Ummah of the true spirit of Eid al-Adha.

“Eid al-Adha teaches us honesty, loyalty, fulfilling promises, humility, and total submission to Allah. Let us uphold these values as we celebrate,” he said.

Sheikh Atareaku further called on community leaders and wealthy individuals to assist those unable to afford rams this year, stressing the importance of unity and support within the Muslim community.

He concluded by appealing for moderation and sincerity in worship during the festival.
