A teacher in the state, Comrade Tajudeen Balogun has called on the Ondo State Government to imbibe the step of Federal Government to stop students who are in Senior Secondary one and two from writing terminal examinations.
Federal government had last week stopped students in SS one and two from writing terminal examinations like WASSCE, NECO and NABTEB, saying they distract other students from concentrating in schools.
Balogun who is also the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools in the state said that the state also experiences the unruly behaviour of these students who have written the exams and are only in school to obtain their testimonials.
Balogun said it would be a welcome development if the state could embrace it.
“It should also be practised in the state because we experience it here too. Some students who are not yet in SS three would go to miracle centres to write terminal exam and they will still be coming to school because of their testimonials.
“Some parents whose children are brilliant also make their children who are in SS one and two write the exam and they will pass. Since they already pass, they won’t be serious with academics and will be distracting other students.
“Most of these students will find their way to private universities before they are 16 years. It seems government no longer enforce the minimum age of admission into university because most private universities admit some students whose ages are less than that”, he said.
He said most of them will engage in social vices because of immaturity and urged parents to allow their children to develop .
According to him, some parents who engage in it do so because they want their children to graduate early because of the restriction on the ages of people to be employed by employers of labour including government.
He called on federal government to do something about age restriction before people are given employment.
