Institutions in Nigeria have been urged to impact positively and instill discipline on their students in order to be productive and useful for themselves and the society.

An educationist, Mrs Dupe Olaniran who gave the charge in Osogbo said institutions must ensure that they produce responsible and productive students.

While decrying the rate of waywardness and drug abuse among youths, especially students, she said it is quite unfortunate that some youths care less about their future.

“Gone were the days when students aspired to become great in the future through hard work and dedication to their studies, but nowadays, they want to excel through illegal means.

“Unemployment is rising in the country due to lack of skills and creativity and the eagerness to work.”

Olaniran stressed that schools must take entrepreneurship serious as the fate of the country and survival of Nigerians lies on it.

While commending the Federal government on the NPower and trader moni scheme, she urged them to create more avenue for youths to benefit from.

“We can’t shy away from the fact that the NPower and trader moni have helped many graduates to survive in this hard times and had also reduced crimes in the society.

She urged youths to be focused to their studies, learn a trade and shun illicit acts that can destroy their future.

She equally called on parents and guardians to monitor, advise and give their children ideas in order to be responsible and self dependent in the future.
