Following the leadership crisis that rocked the Ondo State House of Assembly last Friday, the Chairman of the Ondo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ade Adetimehin has said there is no cause for alarm.
While speaking with The Hope yesterday in Akure, the Ondo state capital, on the development, Adetimehin explained that the party had begun peace moves among the warring lawmakers and that this is yielding positive results.
He described the purported impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Iroju Ogundeji and the purported emergence of Hon. Olamide George and Hon. Abimbola Fajolu as new Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively, as a normal phenomenon and mere internal wrangling among the legislators which would soon be amicably resolved.
The APC Chairman noted that the party had waded in with a view to amicably resolving the problem, adding that he was happy that the lawmakers are positively responding to the ongoing peace move.
He assured that very soon, the problem would become a thing of the past and normalcy will finally return to the hallowed chambers.
Adetimehin affirmed that Oleyelogun remained the Speaker of the Assembly and that no change of leadership has been effected.
“The problem that is happening in the House of Assembly is a normal phenomenon within the legislature. They will have cause to disagree among themselves, but it is the duty of the party that controls the majority to see to the amicable resolution of the dispute.
“Mind you, APC is in the majority there having 19 members and by the grace of God we have been talking to our members and they are responding positively. Very soon we will put everything behind us. They are my children.
“The problem is within the control of the party and the party is already looking into it and we will resolve it amicably.
“I want to use this medium to tell the public that there is no cause for alarm. APC is noted for peace and the peace that is radiating in the state will be sustained by the grace of God. The lawmakers too are loyal party members and will always put the interest of the party in their hearts.
“The party has already waded in and we are going to settle it amicably with them. I can assure you that very soon they will embrace one another”, he stressed.
Asked who is the recognised Speaker of the Assembly now as Oleyelogun and George lay claim to the leadership of the House, the chairman affirmed that nothing has changed in the leadership of the hallowed chambers.
He said Oleyelogun remains the Speaker and nobody was impeached.
He equally refuted the rumour of outsiders’ interference into the affairs of the Assembly, saying nothing of such happened.
