‘Importance of media to agric devt’

The impact of Mass media on Agricultural development cannot be overemphasized as youths are ready to make good use of them.
This was the submission of speakers at a public lecture organised by Student Union of Federal College of Agriculture (FECA), Akure on the importance of Media to Agricultural Development.
The lecture was part of activities line up for the student union week of the institution
General Manager of Crest FM, Mr Adeolu Gboyega stressed that through the media, you can exchange ideas with farmers and relate with other people of common interests anywhere in the world.
“Talking about importance of media to agriculture, Adeolu said. For instance, Zoom, which we can categorise under social media, has given us “an opportunity to interact without seeing each other face-to-face”.
Mr Gboyega further noted, “Print media play a very vital role among literate farmers. In fact, you can have an agricultural publication. That means all the ideas coming from experts can be put together in the publication to enlighten the public about what you do.”
The seasoned media manager and practitioner also admonished his audience to employ the media in doing good quality research as agriculturists.
Another guest speaker, Mr Timothy Akeju stressed the importance of media, especially social media to agriculture, stating that it enables farmers connect better and faster with customers.
The Provost of the College, Dr Albert Fadiyimu, who was represented by Dr Idowu Ogunyinka, encouraged the ND 1 and HND 1 students to be serious with their academics, saying, “There is no way you can push academics aside in whatever you are doing.”
While encouraging the final year students to be good ambassadors of the school, the Provost said, “Wherever you are, don’t forget the college. It’s your Alma mater. Whatever you can do for the progress of the college will be appreciated.”
