A suggestion has gone to government at all levels to include sex education in the curriculum of primary schools as a way of curbing the incessant cases of rape of minors in the society.
Speaking with The Hope during an interview over the weekend, a Counselor, Mrs Modupe Adufe said the environment and the era the country is now call for sex education at all levels.
According to her, many children are being lured and raped because they were ignorant of some things and their rapist would seize the opportunity to carry out their nefarious act.
Adufe said a child who has been raped can not do well academically except he or she is rehabilitated stressing that including sex education in the curriculum will open the children eyes to what they should know.
“Our environment and the era we are now when a 65 years old man rapes three years old girl and the news is awash with stories of rape, call for a critical step.
“Sex education should be taught from the primary level. These children must be made to know the implication of touching the sensitive parts of their bodies. They must be made to know the outcome of sexual intercourse and if any child falls victim after being taught will not blame anybody for that,” he said.
She called on parents to be watchful and should not leave their children in the care of just anybody.
“Parents should also teach their children not to allow anybody to touch them. They should tell them to report to them if anybody touches them because some innocent children have been messed up unknowingly.
“Don’t allow anyone to call your child his wife. Kick against it because some people have used that opportunity to mess up little children”, she said.
She said children that were raped will grow up to either become heartless or loses his or her self esteem.
