Indian hemp lands man in prison

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court has remanded one Emmanuel Ojo, 31, in prison over alleged possession of Indian hemp.
The accused person was said to have committed the offence on July 8, 2019 around 9:00 pm at Erefe area in Ile-Ife.
The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused person was unlawfully in possession of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The offence contravened section 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, prayed the court for bail of the accused person in most liberal terms, promising that his client would not jump bail.
Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi, who rejected the bail request, ordered the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife prison.
The case was adjourned till July 22, 2019 for hearing.
