Ondo State Government has restated its resolve not to condone any act of indiscipline in the state civil service.
To this end, it vowed to prosecute any erring persons according to the rules and regulations and due process as stipulated by the state civil service rule.
Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, represented by his deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi revealed this while receiving the report of the activities and events in the Civil Service Commission between 2017 and 2018 in his office yesterday.
Akeredolu who emphasised the need for the civil servants to be disciplined and give their best service to the state, said their service is pivotal to good governance and that “it is when you have disciplined officers that the output can commensurate with the input”.
Describing the civil service as the pillar and engine room of any government, he said his administration will continue to appreciate and see how it can be nurtured so that the commission can deliver through its personnel.
Akeredolu therefore assured that his government will continue to do “our best to ensure that the image of this government is not tainted and ensure appropriate attention is given to necessary areas in their report.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Afolabi Adewakun while briefing the deputy governor, said some erring officers had been warned or dismissed from the service, while some others had their ranks reduced as a way of setting general tone for decorum within the Civil Service.
He therefore recommended that preventive measures and constant auditing of accounts and records should be put in place to checkmate fraudulent intentions.
Adewakun commended the Akeredolu government saying the commission was able to record the achievements because of the tremendous support of the governor through his total commitment to the rule of law and his respect for the independence of the commission.
He however urged the government to give necessary attention to their area of needs, assuring the government that the commission will continue to work accidously to ensure stability and discipline within the civil service, and ensure fairness and justice in the handling of matters concerning civil servants.
