Indiscriminate dumping of refuse causes diseases, says OSWMB

Nigerians have been warned to desist from dumping their refuse inappropriately to avoid flooding and infections.
The acting chairman, Osun State Waste Management Board, (OSWMB) Mr Femi Ogunbanwo who disclosed this in Osogbo said indiscriminate dumping of refuse into canals can lead to flooding during rainy season and also cause infections.
Ogunbanwo maintained that it is an offence for anybody especially residents of the state to dump their wastes on the main road.
He said refuse disposal operators have been directed to collect wastes from the inner parts of the streets across the state.
He said the state government is expending huge sum of money to ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the state are free from dirt.
He stressed that households and shops owners must always cover their dirt and waste bins to maintain hygienic environment and a dirt-free society.
He advised the people of the state to make their wastes available for collection by the refuse disposal operators.
It will be recalled that some residents of Osogbo were recently apprehended by the officials of the waste management board while dumping their refuse on the road.
