Induction: Nurses charged on teamwork

A senior lecturer at Afe Babalola University, Dr Cecillia Bello said that nurses must continue to recognize the importance of their collaboration with other members of the healthcare team to sustain teamwork in ensuring the best outcomes for patients.

Bello stated this during the 2nd induction ceremony for graduating student nurses at the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED Auditorium, Ondo City,  tagged: Maximizing Collective Intelligence in Health Care Through Teamwork: The Role of the Nurse”.

The guest speaker noted that teams have the potential to achieve more than any individual could achieve alone. Members of healthcare must take advantage of the variety of knowledge, skills, and abilities available among disciplines, and embrace the attitude that promotes teamwork the for best patient health outcomes”.

She added that teamwork in healthcare is the interdependent dealings of two or more people with common goals, working towards achieving measurable objectives through genuine discussion and problem-solving methods.

The Senior Lecturer added that the evolution in health care and global demand for quality patient care calls for more focus on a patient-centered teamwork approach.

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi said the need for appropriate nursing care is to conduct themselves responsibly as an ambassador if the school by enforcing a great standard of the school.

Fatusi further enjoined them to respect the oath of the ceremony and continually learn and relearn as they embark on a life journey.

Also speaking, the acting Dean, faculty of Nursing Faculty, Dr Margaret Oladapo congratulated the inductees and enjoined them to be of good character and demonstrate good leadership, while urging them to behave appropriately at all times and they must never put UNIMED, the faculty in disrepute and they should uphold the core values and ethics of the noble profession.
