By Adekola Afolabi

Ondo state government said it would continue to consider the welfare of workers in the state very paramount.
To this end, the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu would between today and Wednesday meet the leadership of all concerned bodies of labour with a view to engendering a very robust engagement and interface.
The government in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, noted that labour issues are receiving prompt attention.
According to the statement, Ondo state government has always considered the welfare of workers very paramount and shall not play politics with this avowed commitment, saying that it is on record that as at today, Ondo State ranks among those states with a higher level of worker-friendliness among the comity of States in Nigeria.
The government was reacting to a widely circulated correspondence released by labour leaders in the state on issues of industrial harmony.
The state government particularly appealed to all workers to await the outcome of these series of engagements aimed at deepening industrial harmony in the State.
The Governor stressed that Ondo state, like all other States, is undergoing unpleasant economic challenges following drop in both Federation Allocation Account and Internally Generated Revenue.
The statement read; “The attention of the Ondo State Government has been drawn to a widely circulated correspondence to the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN. Among others, the letter in question made allusions to various issues in respect of industrial harmony.
‘It is pertinent to state that the issues raised in the correspondence are not new. They are neither peculiar to Ondo State, especially during this period that has compelled states to undergo unpleasant economic challenges following the drastic drop in both Federation Allocation Account and Internally Generated Revenue.
“Nevertheless, the Ondo State Government has always considered the welfare of workers very paramount and shall not play politics with this avowed commitment. It is on record that as at today, Ondo State ranks among those states with a higher level of worker-friendliness among the comity of States in Nigeria.
“Our inherited liabilities as well as unforeseen occurrences notwithstanding, this culture of commitment shall be heightened.
“In this regard, Mr. Governor will meet the leadership of all such concerned bodies between Monday 13 and Wednesday 15 of July 2020. This is with a view to engendering a very robust engagement and interface.
“Government therefore, uses this medium to appeal to all workers to await the outcome of these series of engagements aimed at deepening Industrial harmony in Ondo State.”
