The Chairman of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, Mr Femi Idris has charged Information officers in the Commission to live above board in all their dealings, saying they are the mirrors of the organisation.
He urged the information officers to at all times, conduct themselves in a manner that will not bring the service into disrepute.
He said as the custodian of information, both classified and general, they should refrain from divulging information or fact without constraint.
The Chairman stated this in Akure, the state capital, while declaring open, a one-day capacity building workshop with the theme: Global Approach to Information Technology: Role of Information officers for the information officers across the 18 Local Governments.
He said it’s pertinent to equip the officers with modern technology of gathering and disseminating information.
Idris said the purpose of organising the training for the information officers was to expose them to the rudiments and gains of global information technology.
The Chairman who was represented by the Commissioner 1 incharge of training and manpower in the commission, Mr Ife Iji disclosed that the board of the commission has organised series of workshops for various departments and cadre in the local government service.
He said: “The training programmes might not achieve the desired result when those who are expected to disseminate the news and activities of the commission to the society are not well informed and equipped.”
“The effect of the good work we are doing in the commission may not be felt in the society, that is why we have decided to train our information officers on the happenings both locally and globally.”
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Dr. Bayo Ilawole urged the officers to be diligent to their duties, saying information officers in the local government service will not be left behind in order to keep to the best practices in information technology.
