Following the incessant attack on the traditional rulers in Ekiti State by kidnappers, the Owa Ooye of Okemesi Ekiti, Oba Adedeji Gbadebo, has suggested the use of African science to tackle the menace.
The monarch who described traditional medicine as the only way to curb the menace of insecurity in the country, explained that the people have so long abandoned the use traditional method and traditional power.
The monarch expressed optimism on the belief he has in traditional medicine, boasted that he as a traditional ruler, he quite believed that no bandit or kidnapper can kidnap him.
He explained that he has strong belief in charms and native powers, explained that he has not abandoned the belief ever since he ascended the throne of his forefather.
The monarch spoke in Okemesi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government of the State at a press conference heralding the 2021 biennial Okemesi Cultural Festival slated for May 8.
The monarch said: “attacks on obas were disturbing. How could people be kidnapping or shooting a traditional ruler dead? I believe that going traditional to curb these senseless killings is not out of place.
“In the days of the old, there were wars and we had unique ways of fighting it and won. Some people don’t believe in it.
Some traditional rulers were saying that they can’t use charms to protect themselves, this is hypocrisy. We are custodians of tradition and not wasters. Why are we running away from our tradition? How can an Oba be killed or kidnapped like a chick? I find it appalling and difficult to believe.
