The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, has declared that insecurity in Ondo State will soon become a thing of the past.
Adeleye attributed the progress to the support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stating that the governor had provided all it takes to win the war against insecurity.
He said Amotekun, in collaboration with other security agencies, cannot afford to disappoint the governor or the people of the state.
The commander made this declaration on Sunday during his birthday thanksgiving service held in his honour at Favour Generational Church, Akure.
The celebration coincided with the thanksgiving service of the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
Adeleye said all necessary tools and support required for the corps to succeed had been provided by Governor Aiyedatiwa.
While speaking, he noted the rising concern over security challenges nationwide, echoing recent sentiments expressed by the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere.
Afenifere, at its meeting on Saturday, had raised alarm over the worsening security situation in Nigeria and the failure of successive governments to implement true federalism through restructuring.
Following a caucus meeting at the Akure residence of its National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, OFR, Afenifere reiterated that restructuring remains the most viable solution to Nigeria’s numerous challenges.
The meeting, presided over by Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, OFR, had representatives from state chapters, including Kogi and Kwara States.
In the communiqué signed by Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, the group expressed deep worry over the resurgence of banditry, kidnapping, and extra-judicial killings across the country, particularly in the South-West States of Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, and Oyo.
In a separate forum, Governor Aiyedatiwa had reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture and pledged continuous support for all security agencies to combat criminal elements and ensure the safety of all law-abiding residents.
Echoing the governor’s stance, Adeleye stated: “My boss, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has elevated Amotekun in every way. He is resolute, committed, and determined to make Ondo the safest state in Nigeria.”
Attributing the corps’ success to divine intervention, Adeleye recounted how he and his men had survived multiple ambushes by criminals even recently, shortly after his birthday.
He commended members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and NAWOJ for their collaboration and positive coverage of the Amotekun Corps, promising never to compromise the safety of citizens in the state.
“I have never, and will never, negotiate with anything that could jeopardise the lives of our people,” he vowed.
In a sermon titled, “Unlimited Praise,” Pastor Julius Abiodun emphasised the power of praise, noting that it brings victory and breakthroughs. He commended NAWOJ for attributing their successes to God and encouraged them to stay on that path.
Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, and Chairperson of the planning committee for the celebration, Comrade Foluke Amodu, were also in attendance.
