Worried by security challenges facing communities and people of Ose local government area of Ondo State, the Ose Social Development Union, (OSDU), on Saturday July 31, 2021 donated ‘operational’ Sienna bus to the men of the Ifon Police Divisional Headquarters to assist them in tackling crimes and criminalities in the area.
The union also presented motorcycles to the community security groups to strengthen their operations especially in the areas of patrol and surveillance.
The division covers Ifon, Ikaro, Elegbeka, Ori-Ohin, Om-Alafa, Imoru, Ijagba, Arimogija, Okeluse, Ute, several notable camps and villages.
Ose Social Development Union is an umbrella body for indigenes of the area home and abroad.
The President of the Union, Mr Debo Atunwa stated in his address that the Union at its June monthly meeting in Lagos reviewed and evaluated the porous and precarious security challenges confronting the Nation and the town in particular and then decided under emergency response to raise special donation to help the situation.
During the Donations in Ifon Atunwa said “You will recall that there were numerous crimes, robberies, killings, kidnappings, maiming of lives and properties in the last one year or more around Ifon. To be specific, in December 2019, a respectable community youth leader and member of this Club, Adebayo Orogun was murdered in Ifon right in his bedroom and on Thursday, November 26th, 2020, our revered, humane and suave Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adegoke Adeusi, JP1 was shot dead at Elegbeka-Ifon on his way home from official duty in Akure.
“Till date, the feelings of his emotional and sacrilegious death remain in our hearts. Since then, the crime rate, menace of kidnapping and robbery have not abated in the land. As a Club and people, we are conversant with the worrisome security situation in these localities,” he said.
The President further stated that Farmers who reside in camps and villages could no longer transport their produce and products to markets for sale while lives and livelihood in Ose local council area have become difficult and meaningless.
He added that “Judging from the above, the DPO and other Heads of sister security agencies have cried for help and the union have chosen to act in realization of Club’s Vision and Mission.
“I express appreciation, on behalf of the Club and Our communities to Mr. & Mrs. Olamiyo Olayoriju who are not members of the club but indigenes and Board of Debo Atunwa Foundation (DAF) for donating one (1) motorcycle each to the 1CDC to assist volunteer Youth in their quest to ensure safety of lives and properties in the land.
He further appreciated the members of the Union home and abroad for choosing to do this and impact humanity positive, describing it a huge and commendable sacrifice.
Atunwa also on behalf of OSDU Members, thanked the men of the security agencies in Ose LGA for not resting despite inadequate means of patrolling the towns and communities.
The DPO of the Division, Mr Samuel Olajide, who responded on behalf of the Nigeria Police, appreciated the Club for their gesture, stressing that it was one of the largest gesture he had ever received as a DPO.
Olajide promised to make good use of the vehicle, while stating that some other groups have been assisting the Division and pleaded for more support and corporation, adding that security business is a very risky one.
