The Pan -Yoruba Socio-Political group, Afenifere, Ondo State chapter has called on the Federal Government to look into insecurity in the country, saying that the spate of killings was an indication that all is not well in the country.
The State Chairman of the group, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa made the call while briefing journalists on the issues discussed during the first meeting of the group held after the step aside of its National Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoronti yesterday in Akure.
The well attended meeting had in attendance the immediate past Governor of the State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, National Leader of the group, Chief Olu Falae, dignitaries and old and new members.
Bashorun Arogbofa said that there are unhealthy signals that all is not well with the country due to the unending insecurity in the country and incessant killings across the nation.
His words: The country is no more safe, we can refer to the cases of Fulani herders on indiscrimate killing and banditry, the citizens are not safe again, we are in a country where we can be attacked at any time”
The group also emphasised on the need for the restructuring of the country in line with the Afenifere’s philosophy as solution for better Nigeria.
“We also come together to look at our immediate environment and the need for members to rally round because of the situation in the country. We are talking about restructuring of this country now because we don’t know what may happen next,” he said.
On his part, the National Leader of the group, Chief Olu Falae also called on the appropriate authority to do the needful in ensuring justice was done to the killer of Mrs. Funke Olakunori, the daughter of Afenifere Leader Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
He said the police claimed to have arrested some people and nothing was done since then.
The group also rejoiced with the family of its late Spokesman Yinka Odunmakin, whose wife, Joe-Okey gave birth to twins recently.
The State Vice Chairman of the group, Chief Femi Aluko added that they were not happy with the situation of the country at this moment, calling for God’s help to move the country out of its retrogressive state.
