Insecurity: We ‘ll engage local communities in policing- Osinbajo

As part of efforts to end the lingering insecurity in the country, the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN has assured of involving local communities through the adoption of Community Policing.
Osinbajo, disclosed this on Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen after meeting with the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and traditional rulers in Osogbo on consultations over security challenges in the state particularly and South West region in general meeting.
He said the only potent method to tackle insecurity around the country was to involve the communities.
Osinbajo while describing traditional rulers as important component of security architecture in all the communities in Nigeria, noted that there was ongoing consultations among critical stakeholders.
Earlier in his address, the governor, Gboyega Oyetola appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration for being pro-active and for showing interest in the security of people in the state and in the South West.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi stresses that the security challenges the state is facing at present is as a result of a conspiracy of factors among which is the movement of some criminal elements to the mining sites in the state.
Oyetola said the state has collaborated with the neigbouring States, mobilized vigilance groups and local hunters to police the flash points and other parts of the State.
He described Osinbajo’s visit as another vista in the relentless search for adequate security for the people as their welfare are the main constitutional responsibilities of government.
The governor said the state believes in the pragmatic approach of the Federal Government to take the nation to the Next Level in the face of the raging economic downturn.
He noted that the state would continue to render support to ensure that, collectively, the nation will be rescued from the present hard times.
