Insecurity: Yoruba leaders demand action

Leaders of the Yoruba nation have unanimously condemned the gruesome murder of the daughter of the  Leader of the Yoruba Pan Socio-Political Group, Afenifere, Pa. Reuben Fasoranti, late Mrs. Olufunke Olakunori while calling on government at all levels to urgently address the problem of insecurity in the country.

The leaders under the aegis of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) and the Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) spoke during their separate condolence visits to Pa Fasoranti at his residence in Akure.

The President of YCE, Col. Adeleye Agbede, rtd. described the unfortunate incident as a tragedy, not only to the family of Pa.Reuben Fasoranti, but to the entire Yoruba nation saying Pa. Fasoranti is one of the icons that the Yoruba nation looks forward to bring it to the next level of development.

 Agbede posited that the elder statesman is one of the Yoruba elders who accepts wholeheartedly the concept of Omoluabi and the culture of the Yoruba race in general.

 He therefore expressed the displeasure of all Yorubas in particular and Nigerians in general at the ugly incident describing it as a great loss.

The YCE President tasked government at all levels to address the problem of insecurity in the country.

Also speaking, the National Publicity Secretary of YCE, Alhaji Adejare Shiyanbolu expressed the displeasure of Yorubas and entire Nigerians on the unfortunate incident.

Shiyanbolu therefore charged government at all levels to beef up security in the country in order to safeguard lives and property of Nigerians.

 In his own,the Chairman of Yoruba Unity Forum, YUF,Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu described the murder of Mrs. Olakunori as shocking, sad and devastating not only to the Yoruba nation but to the entire country at large.

 He described the present state of insecurity in the country as greatly alarming as people now find it difficult to go to their farms to work  saying it is an extreme state of anxiety.

He therefore charged security agencies to restructure the nation’s security architecture so that Nigerians can sleep with their two eyes closed.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ondo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has equally paid a condolence visit to Pa. Fasoranti .

The State Chairman of the party, Bisi Ogungbemi who led the delegation lamented the murder describing it as a huge loss to the people of Akure, Ondo State and Nigeria in general.
