The case of a 21-year-old 300 level student of University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu arrested for the murder of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga may be one of many young students in tertiary institutions that are into prostitution with both young and old men for money.
The Hope investigation revealed that many ladies in higher institutions in the country have taken it as a business venture.
In this report, our reporters spoke with students sex workers in one of the tertiary institutions.
The girls, with a popular group name on campus are known for their classy dresses, looks and ostentatious lifestyle. They are the big girls on campus.
Three of the members and their ringleader spoke with The Hope on reasons for venturing into the risky business, their activities and protection.
Spicy, a 19-year-old 100 level student and a pastor’s daughter said she was introduced to the trade by her mate, Brenda.
“Brenda introduced me to the work so that I will not lack anything and she told me she has been doing the work to feed herself and do other stuffs in school.
“When I got home, I thought about it and decided I was ready to do it. She told me she had one sugar daddy she would introduce me to.
“The first time I went out with the man, he paid me well, 25k. The man even said anytime he needs me, he would call for me. He gave me money and I satisfied him. Ever since, I started making more money and buying things on my own,” she said.
While saying she was not comfortable with the job, she said she needed to do it because her parents were not buoyant.
“If I tell my parents I need money like 10k, they will send 3k. Sometimes, they will send the money very late and I need to have money because we spend a lot in school.
“That is the main reason I follow Brenda’s advice and our school momma,” she said.
Spicy further revealed that she had met many people through the job, including the ring leader, momma.
While establishing that she was making a lot of money from the job, she noted that majority of her clients were married men, saying she prefers them to unmarried men because they pay more money.
“I am just doing it for a short time but to be honest, the job is paying well.
“Although, the single guys do patronize but they are not paying well like married men. The married men, before anything, will take me out, make me happy also give me money and I make them happy too,” the 19-year-old narrated.
She said the way her customers treat or their class would determine her fee.
Spicy’s friend, who introduced her to the trade, Brenda also spoke with The Hope. According to her, she started prostitution at age 15, before her admission into higher institution.
She said she had no option than to engage in sex work to make ends meet after the demise of her mother, saying that her father alone could not bear all the responsibilities.
She said they are selective to tackle the risk of falling into the hands of ritualists and kidnappers.
She revealed that they usually consult “Baba”, who gave them instructions whether to go or not.
Brenda also confirmed that about 75 percent of their customers are married men and she also prefer them to unmarried men because married men are “big spenders”.
Another group member, simply called Damien reluctantly told The Hope she is into the trade to get the money for her school fee and survive economic hardship in the country.
The 200 level student said the money given to her by her parents was not always enough and she needed to meet up with the “big girls on campus”.
The leader of the web, popularly called momma by the ladies, said she began the trade while working at a beer parlour for one madam before she decided to set up her own.
The 300 level student, who hails from Akure, said she had trained many girls in the business and some have travelled out of the country.
According to her, all her girls are living fine, comfortable and are high class girls on campus, “I changed their lives from Techno to iPhone,” she boasted.
Momma told The Hope she ensured her girls were well paid and all their earnings belong to them, adding that she was only concerned about their safety, not their payments.
Momma’s clients, according to her, are people of high class and big spenders and she travels to different places for “gigs”.
She added that none of her ladies would go out with any man without her permission, and any of the ladies, who defied her orders ceased to be member of the group.
Speaking on protection against kidnappers, ritualists or killers, the web leader said she understood the risks involved and they were spiritually protected.
She said the group had a popular traditionalist in Ondo state who provides spiritual security for the girls.
She further stated the “Baba” made incisions for them and other charms to protect them, adding that they use waist beads that they would never remove, even when “Yahoo guys” requested they do. “Any Yahoo guy, who cannot sleep with us with the beads, we let him go”.
In addition, she said, there are Alfas and Prophets that they consult.
She said while the Alfas helped them with prayers, the pastor also pray and give them wrist and leg chains for protection.
Shockingly, Momma revealed that there were rich men they enchanted and could only be released when there was no more need of them.
The Hope further learnt that there were other groups of ladies that are into the business across the campuses in Nigeria.
