‘Introduce parents fora in higher institutions’

Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN, has called on higher institutions in Nigeria to introduce parents’ meetings in order to discourage students from engaging in social vices on campuses.

He emphasized the need to inculcate parents’ forums in higher institutions, noting that students are inclined to do away with social vices when knowing that their parents are directly involved in the affairs of the university.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said this during a parent forum which was held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, UNIOSUN main campus in Osogbo.

Ali, on behalf of members of his council, cleared the air on having a preferred candidate for the next Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

He vouched that no member of the governing council had a preferred candidate for the post.

“Before man and God, I have no preferred candidate for the post of next Vice-Chancellor, we are going for qualities because of the progress of UNIOSUN. This is a state-owned institution where nobody can be imposed,” he said.

Meanwhile, parents of the students of UNIOSUN, during the meeting, urged the state government to increase the allocation to the university, so that school fees can be reduced.

They also asked the management of the institution to review its policy of prohibiting students residing on campus hostels from cooking.
