Irele LG Chair lauded for boosting community security

The Chairman of Irele Local Government area of Ondo State, Deacon Olajide Akinfe, has been commended for his proactive leadership in fostering peace and security across communities under his jurisdiction.

Residents of Iju-Osun community recently paid a thank-you visit to the council secretariat in Ode-Irele to express their gratitude for the chairman’s timely intervention in resolving a long-standing land dispute between their community and the neighbouring Arogbo/Ijaw settlement.

The delegation, comprising traditional title holders and women chiefs, praised Akinfe for his swift action and diplomatic handling of the boundary conflict.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Oke Adeleke reaffirmed their support for the chairman’s administration, acknowledging his direct involvement in the peace process.

He noted that the activation of the Boundary Adjustment Committee and Akinfe’s personal visit to the disputed area were instrumental in achieving a peaceful resolution.

In response, Akinfe appreciated the community’s cooperation and peaceful conduct during the mediation process.

 He urged all parties to continue upholding peace and fostering mutual respect, adding “I remain committed to the wellbeing of all constituents and to building cordial relationships among neighbouring communities.

“Let us continue to tolerate one another and ensure peace and security in our various communities. The government will continue to do its best to safeguard lives and property.”

In a related development, Deacon Akinfe commissioned a newly built operational post of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, in Ode-Irele.

The post, strategically located opposite the town’s main market, is aimed at curbing security concerns, including burglary, illegal parking, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and other criminal activities.

While inaugurating the facility, the chairman tasked the Amotekun operatives with maintaining law and order, particularly in the bustling market area.

He described the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening local security architecture and promoting economic development.

“”The Amotekun Corps initiative is a vital initiative that has brought hope and assurance to our communities, and this market unit is a symbol of our resolve to support their efforts.

“The Ode-Irele market is a hub of commercial activities, attracting traders and customers from far and wide participating in business activities.

 “With this initiative, our Amotekun operatives will have a dedicated space to operate, enabling them to effectively maintain law and order, prevent crimes, and protect our traders and customers,” he stressed.

The chairman also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his continuous support in enhancing the security sector and improving the welfare of operatives in the state.

He urged traders and residents to cooperate with the Amotekun Corps to ensure a crime-free environment.
