Judicial Panel begins sitting treats five petitions

The Ondo State Judicial Panel of Enquiry on Police Brutality and Other Matters, sitting in Akure yesterday held its first sitting in the year 2021.
The panel had it’s last sitting on December 22, 2020.
Five of the pending petitions were treated at the sitting yesterday by the Justice Adesola Sidiq-led panel
The petition filed by Mr Ogunleye Olusola Michael against the operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was adjourned till January 19,2021 for report of service and hearing as the panel was still making efforts to get the accused police officers to appear before it.
Mr Michael filed a petition against the defunct SARS operatives for violation of fundamental human rights, illegal detention and conversion of an Audi 80 salon car and other matters.
Similarly, the petition filed by Mrs Adeusi Solape against police operatives was also adjourned till January 21 for similar reason.
Also, the petition filed by a popular Akure businessman, was heard and closed.
Justice Sidiq informed the petitioner and his counsel that the panel would make its reports, which will be submitted to the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu after the panel had completed all cases.
The petition filed by Prof. Dayo Faduyile could not be heard as the petitioner was unavailable at the sitting. The case was adjourned till January 20, 2021.
The last case called for the day, a petition submitted by Inspector Oladele Femi for loss of personal belongings at the vandalised Aketi/Ayedatiwa Campaign office last year was adjourned till January 19 for hearing.
The panel’s sitting continues today.
