Kaduna bids to host 2022 Sports Festival

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has expressed desire of the state to bid for the hosting rights of the 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF).
He made the intention known during the Tour of the Torch if the 2020 NSF to Kaduna on Tuesday.
He said it would be a good opportunity for Nigeria to converge on Kaduna to see the massive urban renewal projects been embarked upon by the Kaduna State Government.
Represented by the Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Kabir Mato, he said the state boasts of several world class sports facilities, which gives it an edge.
“With the facilities been put in place in Murtala Square, the facilities in ABS and other facilities Kaduna is a good host,” he said.
He said he was delighted to receive the torch.
“We look forward to the NSF we will participate in full swing and are determined to top, beating Delta, Edo and others.
Speaking further, he said that the governor has approved the participation of Kaduna State in all events at the 2020 NSF.
Mato stressed that the state government is committed to all round sports development.
“We are in support of sports development. Recently, the governor indicated interest in rehabilitating facilities at Federal Government owned Ahmadu Bello Stadium in view of his quest to further develop sports in the state.
He said that the youth, and athletes would be given support by the government.
He explained that there are plans to ensure athletes are selected from the Kaduna State Sports Festival, from where those selected selected from the school sports will go into closed camp.
