Kaduna boy faces leg amputation after hot water attack by father

The Kaduna State Government has intervened in a tragic case involving a 7-year-old boy, Abubakar Sani, whose legs were severely scalded by hot water allegedly poured on him by his father as punishment for taking biscuits.

The incident took place in Lere Local Government Area.

Officials say the injuries were so extensive that doctors have recommended amputation below the knees to save the child’s life.

Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Rabi Salisu, disclosed on Wednesday that by the time the ministry received the case about nine days ago, the child’s wounds had deteriorated significantly. “His legs were already decaying, with maggots present. The doctors advised that the only way to save him was through amputation,” she explained.

It was further revealed that Abubakar was confined to a room without adequate food for over 20 days by his father, Sani Tanimi Maishago, and his stepmother. Both have been arrested and will face charges once the investigation concludes.

Salisu emphasized the state’s strong position against any form of child abuse, adding that the government would ensure justice is served to deter similar acts in the future.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdulkadir Musa, Chief Medical Director at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, said the young boy may need prosthetic limbs in the future. He advised parents to discipline their children with care and patience, warning that excessive punishment can have irreversible effects.

The Kaduna State Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children’s welfare, with Salisu noting that the protection of every child remains a top priority.
