Kidnapped farmer, trader killed

Molege in Ose Local Government was again hit by another sad news as a farmer was killed by men of the underworld suspected to be kidnappers on Sunday.

The farmer, who was from Oka Akoko and identified as Zacheus Olotu was said to have been kidnapped between Ifon and Molege alongside his wife on their way to his farm.

The incident, The Hope Metro learnt has caused apprehension among farmers in Akoko, calling on security agents to curb the excesses through information gathering and sharing.

According to a reliable source, the late farmer and his wife left Oka Akoko for their farm in Ose local government where many Akoko farmers engage in farming for a living.

The gunmen reportedly kidnapped the couple between Ifon and Molege but later released the wife possibly for her to source for money for ransom.

When the case was reported, security agents were said to have combed the forests in the area, but surprisingly it was the lifeless body of the farmer that was discovered in the bush.

The corpse had been deposited at Iwaro Oka General hospital.

Meanwhile, the entire family of the deceased and the residents of Korowa Quarters in Oka Akoko, headquarters of Akoko Southwest local government in the northern Senatorial district of Ondo State are now in mournful mood.

The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusufu Adebori Adeleye, while commiserating with the family of the slain farmer, urged police to get to the root of the matter.

Efforts to get confirmation from the Divisional Police Officer, Ifon Police Division, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.

In a related incident, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a 45, year-old businessman, Sunday Okeke, popularly called Sunny White in Ondo town.

Reports said Okeke was kidnapped on his way to his home town in Anambra State, on Saturday.

The victim, until his untimely death owns a communication outfit in Ondo at Odotu area in Ondo west local government area where he was selling different kinds of phones.

The Hope Metro gathered that the victim was travelling with his two friends to his state for a function when they were kidnapped.

He was reported to have ran into the bush when the kidnappers were shooting and he was fired while others were taken to their den.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Hope Metro that the gunmen crossed the road and shot sporadically to scare people away.

“It was in the process that the late Okeke was shot and killed while trying to run away,  “he said.

The wife of the deceased, Chioma described her husband as an easy going man that had his people in mind, saying the news came to the family on Saturday as a rude shock.

She urged the police and other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and give them the necessary punishment.
