Kidnapping: Amotekun rescues 60-year-old Ekiti farmer, arrests suspect

A 60-year-old man, has been rescued from the custody of suspected kidnappers, by the operatives of Amotekun Corps, Ekiti State Command.
The victim, a farmer and father of four, identified as Alhaji Kayo, an indigene of Ekiti state and resident of Ara-Ekiti in Ijero local government area of Ekiti State, was abducted last week in his house by yet-to- be identified gunmen.
According to the Head of communications in the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps Command, Mr Adeleye Adewale, said the victim who is currently recuperating in an undisclosed health facility in the state was abducted on the fateful day in his residence in Ara-Ekiti by a gang suspected to be kidnappers.
Narrating the matter, Adeleye said the Amotekun operatives from lrepodun/lfelodun command had received an intelligent information that a woman whose identity was yet to be known, was also shot by the suspected gang during the operation and was rushed to the hospital.
He said the suspected gunmen who came on a motorcycle shut sporadically to scare the residents away, and later whisked away the suspect to an unknown destination.
He added that the operatives, upon receipt of the information, had swung into action by conducting a night patrol in the area.
He disclosed that during a night patrol in a bush along Awo/Iyin-Ekiti, a 30-year-old suspect, identified as Alfa Ahmed, who is a native of Ilawe-Ekiti, was arrested with a motorcycle alongside the victim.
He explained that the suspect who is currently helping the Corps to arrest other fleeing members, would soon be handed over to the police as soon as investigation is completed on the matter.
Narrating his ordeal, the victim who is receiving treatment in a health facility in the state, said he was in his house at about 8:30 pm on the fateful day shortly after he came back from the farm when two men who came on a motorbike suddenly emerged.
He said he was beaten in the present of his family members and they later threatened to kill him, before he was whisked away on a motorbike.
“I was made to trek for several kilometres in the bush in the night as they threatened to kill me with gun. We later came out of the bush.
“They wanted to take me out of the area to another destination, when we were accosted by the operatives of Amotekun, who later rescued me and brought me to the hospital.”
