One of those abducted by unknown hoodlums, suspected to be kidnappers at Amurin village on the Akure-Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government area of Ondo State, have been rescued by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command..
Information reaching The Hope Metro as of press time on Thursday, indicated that one of the two nurses also abducted has been released by the kidnappers.
The pregnant doctor (names withheld) working with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, abducted alongside four others on Tuesday, was also rescued by the State Police Rescue Team, which was set up by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju.
It was learnt that the kidnappers abducted the doctor and two nurses working with the FMC, including two lecturers of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, in Owo, after the close of work.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has exonerated itself from any ransom paying declaring that it is not a partaker of it.
The Police spokesman, Mr Femi Joseph, in a telephone chat with The Hope Metro, confirmed the development and said the CP organised a search party which had rescued a pregnant woman.
He said, “Nothing was paid. We actually went for her rescue. She’s still with us and we’re still monitoring her condition. If she was released on ransom, she will not still be in our custody.
” Our men have been on ground for the past three days, combing the bush. And investigation is still ongoing.
Joseph, however, stressed that the police does not encourage ransom, saying, if anyone had made any of such, it is not with our consent.
” You would notice that kidnap cases in Akoko area have been reduced drastically.
“The case of kidnapping in Akoko last week was an isolated case. And we are on top of it. We are dealing with the situation.
” So, the issue of saying it is rampart is not known to us or brought to our notice. As we all know, this is yuletide season. We are dealing with everything that is meant to be with security.
As of press time, The Hope Metro learnt the three other people abducted were yet to be released.
