Worried by the unending high profile kidnappings in Akoko area of Ondo State, indigenes and residents have called on the federal government to establish a military base and formation in a strategic place in the area.
They posited that this will further strengthen the security of lives of the people living in communities that make up Akoko land and beyond.
It would be recalled that only last week, an army officer, Captain D. Gana was abducted on the Auga-Akunnu-Kabba road while in transit in the state from Abuja.
Also on Wednesday, a naval officer, Lt. Commander Ajare Uchegbulah Amadi was kidnapped at Oba on the Owo-Ikare road while some other high profile people were also abducted among whom were traditional rulers and their wives.
Commenting on the heinous crime, two Akoko elders, Chief Saliu Okoja and elder James Oladetohun lamented the extent at which the crime has damaged socio-economic activities of Akoko land, a one time commercial and peaceful area.
They noted with sadness the lukewarm attitudes of many Akoko sons and daughters to visiting home or to set up small scale businesses because of fear of the unknown.
They appealed for urgent meeting by monarchs, community and religious leaders to find lasting solutions to the problems.
Another respondent, Mr Femi Oloketuyi from Irun, Akoko Northwest Local Government area, appealed to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to expedite action on the take off of Amotekun security network.
Oloketuyi called for the establishment of a military base in Akoko land saying that Akoko is the gateway to Edo,Ekiti and Kogi states.
