L-PRES shifts to asset-based support in 2025 restructuring plan

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has announced a restructuring of its implementation plan for 2025.

The State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olufemi Adeogun, revealed this in an interview with The Hope in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Adeogun explained that the implementation of the project’s three key value chains—poultry, piggery, and sheep and goat—would shift from input provision to asset-based support for farmers.

He said the World Bank would empower beneficiaries based on specific needs through their respective cluster groups, instead of supporting individuals directly.

“There is a market. We want to build a market around the value chains we’re working on in Ondo State. It’s part of our activities, and I’m optimistic. The World Bank has approved it,” he stated.

He encouraged farmers to be patient and await the new phase of L-PRES activities.

“The World Bank will no longer provide inputs directly to farmers. However, cluster groups can benefit from solar-powered boreholes and solar lighting,” he added.

Adeogun further explained, “For instance, in the Ado-Fure cluster, we plan to convert pig waste to biogas for communal use. They’ll also produce smokeless charcoal from the remnants and organic fertilizer.”

He said the agency also intends to engage the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for training on loan assessment for farmers.
