Labourer arraigned for assaulting policeman

A 26-year-old labourer, Dare Olibamoyo, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrate Court for allegedly biting one Inspector Emmanuel Alademehin in the forehead.

The defendant, whose address was not made available, is facing a three-count charge bordering on unlawful assault and resist arrest.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifoh James, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 8, 2020 at about 1800 hours at Johnson Sawmill area, Ore.

He said that the defendant unlawfully assaulted the officer while performing his lawful duty.

He was said to have used his teeth to bite the officer on the forehead, causing him grievous harm, while he also resisted arrest.

The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary and punishable under Sections 356, 356(2) and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

 The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

 The Chief Magistrate, Mr T.J Ajayi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

 He adjourned the case till January 24, 2020 for further mention.
