A 32-year-old labourer, Tope Fagbemisotu, has been arraigned at an Ondo Magistrate Court, for forcefully breaking into the house of one Seun Akingbola, in an attempt to have carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

Fagbemisotu was accused of conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, by beating up the complainant while he attempted to rape her.

He was further alleged to have unlawfully threatened the lady, Akingbola and one Maria Kuteyi, with a locally-made gun should they fail to cooperate with him.

Prosecution said he committed the offences on August 20, 2023, at about 11:45 pm at Laosho camp via Ondo, contrary to Section 352 and punishable under Sections 249(1), 412, 351, 86(1) and 451(1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of  Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The police prosecutor, Bernard Olagbayi told the court that four witnesses would testify in the case and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Lawyer for the defendant, Mr Isreal Ikuemonisan, applied for his bail in most liberal terms.

Magistrate Charity Adeyanju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with two credible sureties in like sum.

Adeyanju said that the sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction, and show valid I.D. cards.

She adjourned the case till October 24, 2023 for trial.
