Labourer docked for damaging transformer

A 23-year-old labourer, Seyi Ogundare, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing and damaging an electricity cable.
Men of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps charged Ogundare, with three counts of theft and malicious damage.
The State Prosecutor, O.F. Akeredolu, told the court that the defendant on May 15, 2024, at about 4:40 pm at Ojaja Housing Estate, Alagbaka Akure, stole a 16mm cable valued at N500,000 and destroyed an electricity transformer and electricity circuit valued at N8 million property of the estate.
Akeredolu noted that the defendant’s act has endangered the lives of those living in the area.
The offence, according to the prosecutor contravenes Sections 410,413 and 451 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The Magistrate, T.I. Ayodele-James, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500000 with two sureties in like sum.
She stated that one of the sureties must be a civil servant with an affidavit of verification.
Ayodele-James adjourned the case till June 20, for trial.
