Labourers drown in Ekiti

Tragedy struck on Sunday in Anaye village, of Emure-Ekiti, Emure Local Government area of Ekiti State, following the death of two men who were said to have drowned in a well in the area.
The victims, Foluso Ajayi and Salisu Adoyi, were said to be labourers hired by a yet to be identified farmer in the sleepy community.
The Hope Metro gathered from the residents of the community that one of the victims had attempted to retrieve his cell phone which fell into the well while he was fetching water to cook.
The source said he drowned in the well, while trying to retrieve his phone, while the other who made several attempts to save his colleague also fell into the well.
The incident which has thrown the community into mourning was said to have made residents to hire the services of the Hausa community in the area to embark on how to remove the lifeless bodies of the victims from the deep well.
When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the incident, several members of the community were noticed around the well crying and wailing. Some were noticed milling round the well, assisting the Hausa’s on how to evacuate their bodies.
Similarly, policemen attached to the Emure divisional police station, were noticed in the area making frantic arrangements with some community leaders.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Emure divisional police station, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed the incident, said he was in the office when one of the leaders in the community came to inform him about the unfortunate incident.
He said he had sent his men to the area and promised to forward the report to the homicide section of the Ekiti State Police command as soon as investigation is completed on the matter.
