Lack of determination and laziness among the people have been identified as reasons they are not embracing agriculture.
A poultry farmer, Mr Fine Egba gave the submission while speaking with The Hope in Akure.
Mr Egba noted that government can do but little if people especially youths are not ready to go into agriculture.
According to him, “our youths know how to spend money but they are not ready for any hard work. You can only force a horse to the river, you can not force him to drink, that is the case with our youths”.
While saying that challenges can be overcome when one is determined, Egba stated that there is no business without challenges.
Egba who said one can make gains at times and record losses at other times stressed that the gains will cover for the losses adding that farmer must stand firm and encourage himself at such times.
He advised government to assist the few people that are ready by making small loans available to them and give them proper monitoring.
He said herdsmen encroachment does not allow most farmers to go outside their backyard and expand their business and called on government to find a lasting solution to the menace.
