Lack of research hinders Nigeria’s tech devt – ODHA

Tertiary institutions have been encouraged to explore opportunities and intensify research to meet the contemporary challenges hindering Nigeria’s technological development.

Ondo State House of Assembly Committee On Tertiary Education stated this when it visited the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH),   Okitipupa.

The Chairman of the Committee, Felemu Gudu Bankole noted that strengthening technological education is crucial to changing the country’s narrative in terms of development.

Bankole also emphasised that OAUSTECH can improve its IGR through a result based framework on Agriculture and relevant science courses, adding that research opportunities for students will give greater value to the university.

While commending Governor Oluwarotimi  Akeredolu for a job well done in improving technological education in the State, he noted that there is a huge improvement in infrastructural development and academic programmes.

He equally appreciated the  4th Vice Chancellor, Professor Temi Ologunorisa  and the Management team for leading OAUSTECH to greater heights.

Other Members implored the Management to continue to ensure  standard for  greater developmental strides, and charged them not to tolerate  cultism and other social vices in the School.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Ologunorisa affirmed that the institution will continue to deliver on its mandates through training and re-training, sponsoring of Staff for research as well as partnering local and international institutions.

He said the university now has a Faculty of Management Sciences fully accredited by NUC, adding that by next year, the School of Maritime Academy will come up at Ugbo-nla in Ilaje Local Government Area.

While assuring that more faculties are coming on  board ,including School of Art Sciences and School of basic Medical Sciences, he stressed that the vision is to expand the institution and equally use coaster economy to develop it ,called the blue economy.

According to him, the University has increased collaboration across the globe as a way of taking it to the international market and make the graduates competitive at the global market adding that the school is on track and ready to drive its vision and mission.

He thanked the State government for its political will to develop the school and the Assembly for their passion for the institution.
