The corpse of a young woman, simply identified as Precious Yusuf, has been discovered along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club, Asaba, Delta State. 

The 23-year-old lady had reportedly gone to meet a man she connected with on a dating platform, but she never returned.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Bright Edafe, disclosed that the body had been taken to a mortuary, pending autopsy.

In an official statement, Edafe recounted the distressing sequence of events.

“On October 24, at about 8:40 am, a distress call alerted the DPO of ‘A’ Division Asaba to a body found on DLA Road. CSP Rex Abiodun promptly led officers to the site where Miss Yusuf’s body was located,” he said.

Preliminary findings indicate that the young woman informed a friend of her intentions to meet a male acquaintance from the iHappy dating platform on October 22. 

The next morning, she contacted the same friend, saying she was on her way home, only for her body to be discovered later.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured the public and Yusuf’s grieving family that a thorough investigation is underway, with a commitment to delivering justice. 

In his statement, he urged young women to exercise caution when meeting individuals from dating platforms and social media.

As the investigation progresses, the community remains on edge, mourning yet another young life lost under suspicious circumstances.
